Nilesh Kumbhani, a suspended leader of Congress whose form was rejected over issues causing Bharatiya Janata Party to win the Sur Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat without competition, showed up again on Saturday after 20 days. Nilesh Kumbhani accused the Congress of betraying him first in 2017, news agency PTI reported.
Nilesh Kumbhani stated that he was quiet all this time due to his respect for Gujarat Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil and the party’s Rajkot Lok Sabha candidate Paresh Dhanani.
“Congress leaders are blaming me for betrayal. Nonetheless, it was the Congress that betrayed me in the 2017 assembly elections when my ticket for Kamrej assembly seat in Surat got cancelled at the last minute. Congress made the initial flaw, not me,” news agency PTI quoted Nilesh Kumbhani as expressing.
“I did not want this, but my supporters, office staff, and workers were upset because the party is under the control of five self-proclaimed leaders in Surat, who neither work nor let others work. Though AAP and Congress are part of the INDIA alliance, those leaders raised concerns when I campaigned with AAP leaders here,” Nilesh Kumbhani accused.
When questioned if the progression of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections was his retaliation against the Congress, Nilesh Kumbhani declined to give a straight answer and repeated his claim about the ticket cancellation in the 2017 assembly surveys.

On April 21, Kumbhani’s nomination form was turned down after his three supporters presented statements to the district returning officer stating they hadn’t signed the document. Interestingly, the nomination form of Congress’ replacement candidate Suresh Padsala was also refused, closing the party’s participation in the competition.
On April 22, BJP’s Mukesh Dalal was proclaimed elected unopposed from Surat after all other nominees, including one from BSP, removed their nominations.
