"BJP Contemplates Bold No-Trust Motion Against Cong Govt in Himachal Following Cross-Voting in RS Polls."

Polls for the 2024 Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh have concluded with indications of cross-voting in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The outcome will be announced later today.

In the event of the BJP candidate’s victory, sources suggest that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering presenting a no-confidence motion against the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress administration in the state.

If the Congress contender faces defeat, it may be presumed that approximately nine MLAs engaged in cross-voting. Consequently, should the BJP nominee emerge victorious, the party plans to initiate a no-confidence motion against the Congress government.

Over sixty-eight MLAs partook in casting their votes for the single Rajya Sabha position in the Shimla assembly. Congress currently holds 40 seats, and three independents have aligned with the party and participated in the Congress Legislature Party session convened on Monday.

Tough Competition Amidst Congress and BJP

In Himachal, BJP’s Harsh Mahajan is challenging Congress’ Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who had close ties with the late former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. Mahajan, who switched to BJP in 2022, served as a two-time MLA under Congress and hails from Chamba, holding the position of assembly speaker.

Following the polling, the BJP contender remarked that certain Congress MLAs expressed discontent and frustration.

Statements from CM Sukhu and Former CM Jairam Thakur

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu mentioned, “We hold 40 MLAs, and if no one deserts us, we anticipate securing these 40 votes. I am certain that those elected under the Congress ideology must have chosen to support the party.”

Previous Himachal CM and Opposition Leader Jai Ram Thakur pointed out the insufficient backing for the Congress regime. “Tomorrow, the budget is due. We shall monitor the situation and then make a decision,” he declared.
