AAP alleges there's a plot to harm someone over a controversy about Arvind Kejriwal eating mangoes.

Arvind Kejriwal’s legal team asserts that all food items on the Chief Minister’s dietary schedule were recommended by his physician.

New Delhi:

Atishi from the Aam Aadmi Party accused on Thursday evening that there is a “conspiracy to  ssassinate Arvind Kejriwal”, stating that the Delhi Chief Minister, a Type 2 diabetes patient, “is being deprived of insulin even after repeated pleas”. This allegation surfaced shortly after the Enforcement Directorate, responsible for the arrest of Mr. Kejriwal in the alleged alcohol policy scandal, rejected a petition for a teleconsultation with his regular doctor.

Accusing of a “significant conspiracy”, Atishi expressed, “If the BJP fails to surpass Arvind Kejriwal in three months (the Lok Sabha election), then a scheme is being developed to eliminate him by detaining him.”

“Everyone is aware that Arvind Kejriwal is diagnosed with severe diabetes… he has been struggling for the past 30 years. To regulate his blood sugar level, he consumes 54 units of insulin daily,” she remarked.

“Consult any medical expert… just someone with such acute diabetes requires this extent of insulin. This is why the court allowed Arvind Kejriwal to consume home-cooked meals… and eat as directed by the physician.”

“Yet today, the Bharatiya Janata Party, via its affiliate (the ED), is trying to ruin Kejriwal’s health… Today, the ED repeatedly lied,” she claimed, countering the agency’s statements in court.

Opposing the request for a consultation with his doctor, the ED contended that the Chief Minister endangers his own life by routinely ingesting mangoes and sweets while drinking tea with sugar, all of which are prohibited for diabetics.

“(Mr. Kejriwal’s) dietary plan includes mangoes and sweets… it has been presented to the court. (Mr. Kejriwal) regularly consumes items unsuitable for any diabetic patient,” stated the agency’s attorney.

Atishi criticized that argument, stating, “This is completely false… Kejriwal is allowed to consume tea and sweets with a sweetener (as) prescribed by the physician. This is a low-calorie sweetener given to diabetics.”

She further censured the ED for suggesting that Mr. Kejriwal is eating bananas to elevate his blood sugar level, which purportedly fell to a critically low 46 Mg when he was initially detained. “I want to tell the ED… consult any diabetes specialist. Patients are advised to carry a banana and some sort of toffee…”

“If the ED read the court’s directive, it explicitly states that when Kejriwal is under ED custody, or in prison, he must have a toffee and banana (with him) at all times,” she stated, referring to an order that the AAP leader be provided with home-cooked meals, bottled water, and a supply of toffees.

Atishi also condemned the ED for alleging that Mr. Kejriwal consumed oily and fatty foods like puri and aloo daily. “ED officials… fear the Almighty! The dietary plan you submitted in court reveals that Kejriwal had this only on Navratri’s first day. Are you prohibiting us from consuming even Navratri prasad (offerings)?”

Why Was Arvind Kejriwal Arrested?

Arvind Kejriwal was apprehended by the ED on March 21 regarding the alleged liquor policy scandal in the capital city. The investigating agency believes that the Chief Minister played a pivotal role in formulating the now-defunct policy and demanded bribes, or kickbacks, in exchange for liquor licenses.

The AAP and Mr. Kejriwal rejected all accusations and labeled the arrest and case as “political vengeance”, occurring shortly before the Lok Sabha election.

Mr. Kejriwal has contested his arrest in the Supreme Court. Nonetheless, the apex court has declined an expedited hearing. He must now wait until April 29, when the court reconvenes to hear the ED’s response.
